Stained Glass Cakes
Difficulty Level: Easy
Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Here is a stunning idea for mishloach manos or a simcha. These were made as mini loaves, however, this idea can be adapted for a round cake or even cookies. Although this project takes a little time, it is not as difficult as it looks – especially since you can use ready-made products for the decorating.

Ingredients

mini cakes

buttercream or chocolate icing

fondant

tube of chocolate decorating icing

a few tubes of decorating gel

*All of these products can be bought in specialty food stores. Most are made by Wilton.

Directions

Frost your cakes with your favourite icing.

Roll the fondant out according to the package instructions, making sure it is large enough to fit over the cake. Carefully drape it over your cake, without stretching. Smooth the fondant onto your cake with your fingers. Using a sharp knife, trim off the excess fondant at the bottom.

Fill a pastry bag witheither a chocolate or buttercream icing and fit with a writing tip. Pipe the outlines of the design onto your cake. (you can do a simple design, such as polka dots or something more intricate, such as flowers and leaves. Either way will look great. just make sure to fully close whatever design you create, so the colors wont leak into each other.)

Fill in the design with assorted colours of piping gel. You can fill in all the spaces, or leave some white – your choice.

Now sit back and wait for the compliments on your finished product!
