Admit it, when you have a specific problem that you need help with, you know who to call. There’s the one friend who knows how to get a stain out of anything and the aunt who knows the best stores to visit in town. From shopping to decorating to cooking and cleaning, everyone has someone that they can reach out to for help without any doubt that they’ll be able to help.
When you’re cooking or baking (especially on a regular basis) for a family member or friend with special dietary needs, you can’t just open the latest issue of Kosher Inspired like everyone else – yes, you can open it up and know that the recipes will be delicious, but safe and delicious are different things.
Below are links to blogs written by women like us – women who are trying to create menus that, while lacking in certain ingredients, aren’t lacking in taste. Besides for offering recipes, they share their own experiences in raising food-allergic children, as well as the fears and frustrations that come along with the sometimes overwhelming job.
Allergy Sense: Blog, Directory and Basics page of resources. Much of the site is currently under construction for improvements, but browse around.
Food Allergy Assistant: Another blog with resources and recipes. The blog is updated fairly often with news and studies relevant to the food allergy community.
Food Allergy Mama: By Kelly Rudnicki, this fabulous blog focuses on milk, egg and nut free recipes, all created by Kelly (a food allergy mamme, though an irreligious one). She has a beautiful baking book out that uses fairly standard ingredients – you wouldn’t believe that the cakes, cookies and breads she makes are free of eggs.
Lexie's Kitchen: A gold mine of allergy-friendly recipes. Every recipe is tagged so you can easily find the ones that suit your dietary restrictions.
The Sensitive Pantry: Gluten-free, egg-free and dairy-free recipes. Though the site hasn’t been updated since November 2011, the recipes are still great and beautifully presented.
